Your 5-Minute Flute Body Reset

When we play the flute, we need to twist the spine in a very particular way. Over time, we lock the chest and the neck without knowing it, which can result in discomfort and shallow breath. This Flute Body Reset helps you to unwind and find freedom within yourself.

A few things to note before we begin. This is not stretching, and it is not exercise. Never force, and never push through discomfort.

If anything feels uncomfortable, make the movement slower and smaller, and stay within the range that feels easy. Rest whenever you need. We will move to the right side only. If the right side is not comfortable for you today, simply follow every instruction to the left instead. Your body will learn the same lesson.

Before you press play, play one long note on your flute. Any note. Listen to it, and notice how your body feels while you play it.

Then put the flute down, find a comfortable place to stand, and follow my voice.

After the body rest, pick your flute back up and play that same note again.

Notice what's different. Your tone, your breath, how your body feels holding the flute. Small shifts count. This is the same thing I teach my students every week: the sound doesn't come from trying harder, it comes from what your body is already doing.

I am Dr. Melody Lin. I've spent years helping flute students go from tense, airy, and stuck, to clear, resonant, and grounded, by working with the body first.

You can come back to this audio anytime and repeat on the alternative side. Five minutes, whenever you want to hear your sound shift again.
